HOME ASSIGNMENT
■ Explain the role of active and passive voice in day to day life and prepared sentence as per the rules.
● Introduction
Voice in English grammar shows whether the subject of a sentence performs an action or receives an action. There are two main types of voice:
1.Active Voice
2.Passive Voice
Both are important in everyday communication, writing, education, workplaces, news reports, and official communication.
1. Active Voice
In active voice, the subject performs the action.
● Rule:
Subject + Verb + Object
Examples:
> Riya writes a letter.
> The teacher explains the lesson.
> My mother cooks dinner.
> The students cleaned the classroom.
> Rahul completed his assignment.
Active voice makes sentences clear, direct, and easy to understand. We commonly use it when we want to clearly identify who is doing something.
2. Passive Voice
In passive voice, the subject receives the action.
●Rule:
Object of Active Voice + suitable form of “be” + Past Participle (V3) + by + Subject
Examples:
> A letter is written by Riya.
> The lesson is explained by the teacher.
> Dinner is cooked by my mother.
> The classroom was cleaned by the students.
> The assignment was completed by Rahul.
In passive voice, the person performing the action may sometimes be omitted if it is unknown or unimportant.
●Example:
Active: Someone stole my bicycle.
Passive: My bicycle was stolen.
●Rules for Changing Active Voice into Passive Voice
Rule 1: The object becomes the subject
Active: The boy kicked the ball.
Passive: The ball was kicked by the boy.
Rule 2: Use the past participle (V3)
The main verb changes to its third form.
Active: She writes a letter.
Passive: A letter is written by her.
Rule 3: Use the correct form of “be”
The form of is, am, are, was, were, be, been, being depends on the tense.
Rule 4: Pronouns change when necessary
I → me
We → us
He → him
She → her
They → them
You → you
Active: She helped me.
Passive: I was helped by her.
●Role in Day-to-Day Life
◇ Active Voice is useful when:
We want communication to be direct and clear.
We are giving instructions.
We are describing our own actions.
We are writing informal messages.
We want to emphasize who performed the action.
● Examples:
> Please close the door.
> I submitted my assignment.
> The manager approved the request.
> We completed the project.
◇ Passive Voice is useful when:
The action is more important than the person performing it.
The person who performed the action is unknown.
We are writing formal or official documents.
We are writing news reports, scientific reports, or instructions.
● Examples:
> The road was repaired yesterday.
> The documents have been submitted.
> The meeting was cancelled.
> The results will be announced tomorrow.
●Conclusion :
Active and passive voice both play an important role in day-to-day communication. Active voice makes communication simple, direct, and energetic, while passive voice is useful for formal, objective, and action-focused communication. Understanding both forms helps us communicate effectively in college, at home, in the workplace, and in the society.
CLASS ASSIGNMENT
■ Explain the role of personal Pronouns and how they make sentences more effective.
● Introduction :
Personal pronouns are words used in place of nouns or names. They help us avoid repeating the same noun again and again and make sentences clear, smooth, and effective.
> Examples of Personal Pronouns
● First person: I, we, me, us
● Second person: you
● Third person: he, she, it, they, him, her, them
> Role of Personal Pronouns
1. Avoid repetition:
Instead of saying Riya went to college. Riya attended a lecture. Riya met her friends, we can say:
Riya went to college. She attended a lecture and met her friends.
2. Make sentences shorter:
Pronouns reduce unnecessary repetition and make communication easier.
3. Improve clarity and flow:
They connect ideas naturally and make writing smoother.
4. Make communication personal:
Words like I, we, and you help create a direct connection between the speaker and the listener.
5. Make writing effective:
Pronouns make conversations, essays, emails, and everyday communication more natural.
●Conclusion :
Personal pronouns are an important part of English grammar. They reduce repetition, improve sentence flow, save words, and make communication more natural and effective. Therefore, using personal pronouns correctly helps us express our ideas clearly.
